This is a fun movie based on the classic Disney film. Unlike some people, I actually like Nicolas Cage. He plays some of the most interesting and sometimes crazy characters.
But I have never imaged crazy old Cage as a wizard so I had to see this movie and bought it on Amazon digital movies to add to my collection.
The story is interesting, the effects are fantastic, and the characters are great. If you want a fun movie about magic and wizards but not Harry Potter, yet still safe for kids, this is a good choice.
I think if I remember right I even got it on some sale for 12 bucks, great deal! I love this movie and never get tired of it. This is a well crafted story.
The blending of science and "magic" was brilliant There's humor, the characters are totally lovable, there's romance, the villains are villainous, and there's plenty of adventure.
A fun ride beginning to end. Just a fun movie for people of all ages, lots of fun effects. Not too scary and also not too deep, but fun. For those who love the movie how to train your Dragon, the young male actor in this film is the voice of the Hiccup who trains the dragon.
So that is a bit of added fun to see the same facial expressions and mannerisms as in that movie. There are so many classic Disney films, I'd like to stress what distinguishes this one alongside of several of my favorite illustrated animation films.
Whereas "Sorcerer's Apprentice" is completely digital animation, I'm thinking of two scenes in particular which would make this a fantastic investment of entertainment time to any viewer.
Comedy and sheer dramatic suspense expressed in special effects media is state of the art. In my opinion, most of the 20th century offerings of Disney Studios were in some ways indebted to the pioneering creative teams who brought us these films.
The personal touch of Walt Disney in their creation included selecting a quality of fantasy literature that makes humanity dream.

It transforms the commonplace of everyday life to be a lively host to the larger arena of the human imagination. I really like this movie, and so does my whole family, with boys ages and two parents.
The hero is so well acted, believably nerdy, brainy and heroic, and the romance is funny and believable. The villains are very well acted, and the action and special effects are exciting.
Really an ideal movie for when you want something clean but cool. Our family has seen it multiple times. May be a little scary for under 8.

I do like the physicist magus idea in the modern day being effective. The magic is really well done for a medium budget flick and imaginative. My little guy liked it.
Nicolas Cage's performance as Balthazar Blake is just as I'd expected: goofy, yet endearing. Alfred Molina, as always, is delightful as a villain, especially the tongue-in-cheek villain, Horvath.
Jay Baruchel Dave is the epitome of my idea of a physics nerd, and he comes across believable as the reluctant hero. I appreciated that the girlfriend Becky actress Theresa Palmer was understanding of Dave's oddities of character and personality quirks.
She was able to look deeper to find out who Dave was underneath his surface of nerdiness, instead of reacting in an angry or put-out way when their 'dates' didn't turn out as she might have expected.

The film centres around Nick Cage who has to find a successor to Merlin in order to kill Morgana and save the world from the undead.
Great special effects and the younger actors complement the established actors brilliantly without taking over and making it a "kids'" movie.

As Dave, I was initially thrown by the casting of Jay Baruchel. Having gotten used to Hollywood casting conventionally good looking heroes, he came as a surprise with his intense geekyness and awkward looks.
However, it enables him to play a vulnerable, awkward, and slightly comedic character in a truly fantastic way, and throughout the film 'Dave' opens up more and more to us until he begins to become the hero everybody wants him to be.
It enables him to be a genuine underdog, and you really find yourself cheering him along in that old 80's adventure-movie way. The rest of the cast are terrific as well.

Nicholas Cage and Alfred Molina are in excellent form as warring sorcerers - both give the roles their all and both bring them beautifully to life. Kein Meisterwerk, aber dennoch am Ende ein Film mit hohem Unterhaltungswert. Dieser Film hat alles was ein guter Film braucht.
