The Trojans attempt to take advantage of the divisions within the Greek camp. The Trojans receive a message from the gods and embark on a daring raid with new allies.
Helen's situation remains precarious. Achilles is provoked into returning to battle. King Priam takes his life into his hands to visit Achilles.
A truce is agreed, but will it hold? Helen faces a personal crisis as her relationship with Paris comes under strain. The Trojans are stunned to discover that all that remains of the Greek army in Troy is an offering to the gods in the form of a wooden horse.
They believe the war may finally be over, and celebrations begin. There are several versions of this narrative on which to draw.
But if only he had not made it all seem so tediously 21st century. Ultimately, however, it's precisely this over-amped drama that makes Troy such a guilty pleasure.
Give yourself an episode or two to acclimatise to the cheesiness, suspend as much disbelief as you can, then let the swords and sandals carry you away.
From the bloody Caesarean birth at the start of the story, to the vivid depiction of ancient sports, this is a respectful, grown-up retelling of the myth.
Early enthusiasm is liable to fade in the face of the beige-ish characterisations and mundane dialogue with which [David] Farr has littered his stage, while a largely unknown cast lacking big personalities who might dominate the screen doesn't help much.
Troy: Fall of a City is in the enviable position of feeling both cultured and entertaining at the same time. This is a good-looking show with a clear sense of what it wants to be and how it wants to go about re-telling this story.
It's a shame that the show didn't garner more attention, as there's much here that's very interesting. Ultimately, the first instalment of Troy: Fall of City is the calm before the storm, it is superbly acted with some fantastic visuals, but the pacing might feel a little off to some.
Yet, while the dialogue there was also a seamless combination of the portentous and the banal, Troy takes the process a whole lot further, with a script that seems pitched somewhere between a particularly corny Hollywood epic and a play by Ernie Wise.
