Gli avvenimenti che seguono, e che hanno un andamento meno avventuroso, sono imperniati sulla fattoria dello zio Silas e sui rocamboleschi piani che escogitano i ragazzi per liberare Jim.

Il libro termina con la triste prospettiva della scuola per Huck, visto che la zia Sally lo vuole adottare, ma lui con l'aiuto di Tom escogita nuovi piani di fuga per fuggire ancora una volta dalla temutissima civilizzazione.
