This is done Rashomon -style, first from the point of view of a new reverend in town Anthony Steel , then from John himself, then from John's wife Anika Ekberg.

This was a unique western, with some very serious issues presented, including PTSD long before it was called PTSD , jealousy, bigotry, and physical and verbal abuse, not to mention what Hayden tries to do once his wife's big secret is revealed.
