This is a story about a person's fall from grace. Another complaint was about how he began to aimlessly pursue different avenues within the story.

We are witnessing the beginnings of someone's downward spiral. He has an ultimate view of justice that he has put upon a pedestal that until now has always been achieved through his hard work and natural talent.

Now he is faced with a situation where he knows many people's lives are in danger and he is helpless to save them. In turn, he runs around grasping wildly at any straws available.

Ultimately choosing to go against his original views of justice in order to bring about safety and peace. Lastly, I want to address the complaint that the "Suicide Law" plot is unbelievable.

I must disagree on this viewpoint since the "Right to Die" has been a hotly debated topic in legal circles for years. This law is not addressed towards prosecuting an individual wishing to take their own life, but would allow for third party i.

There are only a handful of States in the United States that allow assisted suicide and usually under very strict guidelines. However, this story comes from Japan and they could have even stricter laws on the books regarding this matter.

Even though passive euthanasia has been legally accepted for the most part i. This law would go further and protect third parties engaging in assisting suicide i.

There was even recently a court case where a young woman was imprisoned for actively contributing to a young man's suicide by sending text messages encouraging his death.

Under the proposed suicide law in Babylon, that would more than likely be protected and that case would have never occurred. Why this is such a hot button topic is because of the slippery slope that active euthanasia encompasses.

There is the fear that active euthanasia with an individual's consent could eventually lead to non-consensual euthanasia further down the road with someone else determining whether someone lives or dies based on their supposed usefulness to society.

This has been a plot device widely used in many dystopian novels. Therefore, I feel it is a believable and relevant plot for an anime centered around moral dilemmas.

While I love the Psycho-Pass franchise and am thoroughly enjoying Season 3, I don't feel it holds a candle to the storytelling of Babylon. Psycho-Pass has never made me visibly shaken after an episode such as was accomplished in Episode 7 of Babylon.

I feel that Babylon might be one of those stories where characters get slowly fleshed out as the season continues. My reason for this belief is that throughout the anime there have been hints or tiny bits of information dropped about different characters.

I noticed that it seems to be the same in Psycho-Pass 3 on character development where you are not only unraveling the mystery of the story, but the mystery of the characters themselves.

While I don't feel that the anime explicitly shows gratuitous amounts of violence such as Blade of the Immortal, there are very heavy themes and allusions to violence being perpetrated in this anime that many might find uncomfortable or unsuitable for certain viewers.

Also, you must keep an open mind when watching this anime as it seems there might be a supernatural element to it. Otherwise, if you are interested in a gripping thriller which explores questions of morality along a similar vein to the Monster, Death Note, or Psycho-Pass franchises, I definitely believe you should give this one a chance.

This is a review based on the first arc which just premiered with three episodes. Synopsis: Zen Seizaki is a strong minded moral prosecutor who is assigned to the Tokyo District office.

While investigating a pharmaceutical company for an apparent violation of the law, Seizaki finds an unusual paper that is covered in blood, hair, and fingernails.

Across it, the letter F is written thousands of times. It is this single paper that bounds Seizaki into an investigation of not only the pharmaceutical company, but also of a deadly new drug, a political election, and the woman who controls all these individuals.

Throughout the series, Seizaki must come to terms with his own definition of justice is but also what it means to serve justice.

Each episode ends on a high note where the viewer craves more and more. The series has dark undertones and death is the main topic. The animation is stunning and the ending song is so good!

I can only hope that the rest of the series will be just as good, but for now I think the beginning is incredibly fascinating. If you like detective stories, the thriller genre, and conspiracy theories, this show is for you!

Having watched six episodes, I've decided to drop the show. By episode 3, I could tell that the coherency of the story was beginning to degrade and that the show was trying to pass it off as just complex.

It is not. For sure, the first episodes was quite good and had me hooked, but the good will was quickly lost.

All of the characters are fairly one-dimensional. For instance, we are told that the main character, the lead detective, has a wife and child.

Yet, we never see them until episode six. It was a passed-up opportunity for fleshing out his character.

Instead, they just give us a guy who is angry, frustrated, and always in pursuit of justice. The writing is so bad for his character that one cannot even say that he is a hard-boiled detective.

No, its just bad writing all around. Then there is the storyline. It starts off as a simple murder mystery that quickly turns into a political drama.

This shift is not necessarily bad, but the execution is just horrible. The main character drops case after case to pursue the next one with very little justification.

Furthermore, the world-building is just awful and hamfisted. The story takes place in a special political zone that is granted wide latitude in self-governance within Japan.

It's ostensibly supposed to be a testing ground for new ideas. Yet, the political system is so rife with extremely obvious loopholes and politics conducted in such one-dimensional ways, all of which lead to one crazy plottwist or scenario after another, that one begins to see that this writing is not so good at world-building as it is at giving itself a lazy blank cheque.

The better sci-fi for this anime season is undoubtedly Psycho-Pass Season 3. Skip Babylon and go watch that one.
